AGS Poll: Final 2022 Top 25 Results

The 2022 season is in the books and with that comes the final AGS Poll release of the season. As is the norm for the final poll there was quite a bit of movement from the Selection Sunday poll based on how the postseason shook out. The national champions South Dakota State reclaimed their top spot taking all 44 first place votes. They were followed by national runner-up North Dakota State who moved up 2 spots to #2. Incarnate Word set yet another program record for highest ranking ever in the AGS Poll coming in at #3 after a run to the semifinals and Montana State slid down a spot to #4. Sacramento State slid down 4 spots to round out the top 5 at #5.

As for other teams on the rise Holy Cross moved up 3 spots to #6 (matching a record high for the program in the AGS Poll set earlier this year) after a run to the quarterfinals. Southeastern Louisiana moved up 5 spots to #12 after beating Idaho in the first round of the playoffs and getting edged by Samford in the second round. Montana jumped up 7 spots to #14 after getting a first round win over SEMO before bowing out with a second round loss to NDSU. Delaware also moved up 5 spots to #20 after a first round win over St Francis before being dropped by SDSU in the second round. North Carolina Central made their first appearance in the AGS Top 25 since the 2016 season coming in at #24 after upsetting previously undefeated Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl.

The teams that dropped from Selection Sunday were headlined by Elon who dropped 7 spots to #18 after a lopsided first round playoff loss to Furman. Jackson State plummeted 10 spots to #23 following their aforementioned loss to NC Central. Rhode Island dropped out of the top 25 after missing the playoffs making room for previously mentioned NC Central.

In terms of conference representation the Big Sky led the way placing 6 teams into the top 25. They were followed by the CAA with 5, the SOCON with 4, the MVFC with 3, and the Patriot and Southland with 2 each in the top 25. There were 9 conferences represented in the final AGS top 25 of the 2022 season.

Kris and Lance hit us with some discussion of the bidding controversy to start the show and then roll into the games for the coming weekend and let us know who they think might be able to surprise.  It’s gonna be really interesting to see what Delaware, Richmond, and Furman might be able to do this Saturday.  Does Gardner-Webb have a shot against W&M, it is very possible and should be a great watch too.  Kris said bet the farm on that one.

Kris and Lance rarely, and I mean very rarely have any guests on the show so this week Kris invited one of his friends to come on and discuss some football.  Paul Sorensen, 1/2 of the EWU radio broadcast team, a former WSU Safety, draft pick in the 1982 NFL Draft, and although not an Eagle alumni a man that knows how to fly the double bird. Great to have him with the fellers to discuss the 1st round games and give some insight on the BSC teams that he knows well.
