While week 5 didn’t see a large number of upsets there were some major shifts in the AGS top 25 due to the upsets we did see. The top 5 remained unchanged from last week with North Dakota State, James Madison, South Dakota State, Eastern Washington, and Kennesaw State comprising the top 5 in that order.
The big movers up were led by UC Davis who, despite being idle last weekend, moved up 4 spots to crack the AGS top 10 for the first time ever coming in at #9. Stony Brook moved up 6 spots to #12 after edging out Villanova at home. Montana and Towson continued their climbs up the rankings as both moved up 5 spots to #14 and #18, respectively, after each picked up comfortable victories on Saturday. Colgate made the first appearance in the AGS top 25 this year by a Patriot League team as they rose 4 spots to come in at #22 following their 4-0 start. However, the biggest riser of the week was Missouri State who, on the back of an upset win over Illinois State, shot up 11 spots to #23.
As for teams going in the opposite direction they were headlined by Illinois State who fell 7 spots to #13 following their aforementioned loss to Missouri State. Villanova dipped 5 spots down to #19 after a close loss to Stony Brook dropped them to 0-2 in CAA play. Maine plummeted 12 spots down to #21 after being dismantled by unranked Yale. Central Arkansas barely hung on their top 25 ranking dropping 10 spots to come in at #25 after an OT loss to Southland rival Sam Houston State. Chattanooga and Montana State both dropped out of the top 25 after sustaining losses over the weekend.
In terms of conference representation the CAA led the way again with 7 teams in the top 25. They were followed by the MVFC with 6, the Big Sky with 4, and the Southland with 3 teams in the top 25.
