Albany took a 9-spot tumble to #25 after being upset by New Hampshire. Eastern Washington fell out of the 25, and completely out of the poll altogether, after dropping their game at Idaho State this week.

In terms of conference representation the MVFC led the way placing 6 teams into the top 25. They were followed by the Big Sky and CAA with 4 each, the SOCON with 3, and the UAC with 2 teams in the top 25. Once again 11 conferences were represented in this week’s top 25.

With all the new teams making their way into the top 25 there had to be just as many who left it – those teams dropping out of the top 25 this week included Mercer, Rhode Island, Southeast Missouri State, and Samford.

AGS Poll: Week 3 Top 25 Results

It was a quiet week in the AGS Top 25 this week with only one loss from last week’s top 25 not coming from an FBS team or a higher ranked FCS team. As they have all season South Dakota State maintained it’s grip on the top spot picking up all but 2 of the 44 first place votes. They were once again followed North Dakota State, Montana State, and Holy Cross, in that order, from #2-#4. Sacramento State used a big win over Pac-12 Stanford to move up 3 spots to #5.

There wasn’t much else for teams on the rise this week as the only other team moving up more than 2 spots was Western Carolina who continued their strong start to the season moving up 4 spots to #17 following a win over Eastern Kentucky. Albany cracked the top 25 for the first time since the spring 2021 season coming in at #25.

The only team to drop more than 2 spots from last week’s top 25 was Southeastern Louisiana who plummeted completely out of the top 25 following an 0-3 start to their 2023 campaign. That snapped a 45 poll streak of top 25 appearances for the Lions that started in week 11 of the 2019 season.

In terms of conference representation the Big Sky led the way again placing 6 teams into the top 25. They were followed by the MVFC and CAA with 5 each, the SOCON with 4, and the OVC with 2 teams in the top 25. Once again 8 conference were represented in this week’s top 25.

AGS Poll: Week 2 Top 25 Results

The week 2 results across the FCS shuffled up the AGS Top 25 quite a bit with the subdivision picking up its first 3 FBS wins of the season and a few upsets sprinkled in there. AGS Poll: Week 1 Top 25 Results

As the 2023 season kicked off we saw 9 teams in the preseason AGS Top 25 take losses in week 1 but only 2 of those were against FCS opponents so things stayed fairly steady with a few notable exceptions. Southern Illinois got back into the top 25 moving up to #22 after beating Austin Peay in their opener. Youngstown State made their first appearance in the AGS Top 25 since 2019 coming in at #24.

As for teams dropping this week the most notable who stayed in the top 25 was Southeast Missouri State who fell 3 spots to #16 after getting trounced by FBS Kansas State. Richmond, after being stunned at home by Morgan State, fell out of the top 25 as did Chattanooga, who fell completely out of the poll, after dropping their season opener to North Alabama.

AGS Poll: Preseason 2023 Top 25 Results

The 2023 college football season is fast approaching so with the calendar turning to August we have the first release of the AGS Top 25 for the 2023 season. To no one’s surprise the leader out of the gate is defending national champion South Dakota State who picked up 41 of 42 first place votes. They were followed by 2022 national runner-up North Dakota State. Montana State came in at #3 and Furman moved up to #4 for their highest ranking in the AGS Poll since 2006. Holy Cross rounded out the top 5 with their highest ranking in the history of the AGS Poll.

Northern Iowa shot back into the top 25 climbing up from the ORV to #20. Rhode Island also opened the season in the top 25 at #22 after ending 2022 in the ORV category.

Fordham and Jackson State fell out of the top 25 after finishing 2022 inside of it.

AGS Poll: Final 2022 Top 25 Results

The 2022 season is in the books and with that comes the final AGS Poll release of the season. As is the norm for the final poll there was quite a bit of movement from the Selection Sunday poll based on how the postseason shook out. The national champions South Dakota State reclaimed their top spot taking all 44 first place votes. They were followed by national runner-up North Dakota State who moved up 2 spots to #2. Incarnate Word set yet another program record for highest ranking ever in the AGS Poll coming in at #3 after a run to the semifinals and Montana State slid down a spot to #4. Sacramento State slid down 4 spots to round out the top 5 at #5.

As for other teams on the rise Holy Cross moved up 3 spots to #6 (matching a record high for the program in the AGS Poll set earlier this year) after a run to the quarterfinals. Southeastern Louisiana moved up 5 spots to #12 after beating Idaho in the first round of the playoffs and getting edged by Samford in the second round. Montana jumped up 7 spots to #14 after getting a first round win over SEMO before bowing out with a second round loss to NDSU. Delaware also moved up 5 spots to #20 after a first round win over St Francis before being dropped by SDSU in the second round. North Carolina Central made their first appearance in the AGS Top 25 since the 2016 season coming in at #24 after upsetting previously undefeated Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl.

The teams that dropped from Selection Sunday were headlined by Elon who dropped 7 spots to #18 after a lopsided first round playoff loss to Furman. Jackson State plummeted 10 spots to #23 following their aforementioned loss to NC Central. Rhode Island dropped out of the top 25 after missing the playoffs making room for previously mentioned NC Central.

In terms of conference representation the Big Sky led the way placing 6 teams into the top 25. They were followed by the CAA with 5, the SOCON with 4, the MVFC with 3, and the Patriot and Southland with 2 each in the top 25. There were 9 conferences represented in the final AGS top 25 of the 2022 season.
