Less than a week until Selection Sunday and the AGS Top 25 is rounding into shape. Week 11 was quite a bit calmer than last week but 2 losses amongst last week’s top 10 and several losses right around that playoff bubble line amongst teams ranked in the 20s have made things quite interesting going into the final week. Sam Houston remained a constant at the top of the poll picking up 50 of 51 first place votes. They were once again followed by Montana State and James Madison at #2 and #3, respectively. North Dakota State slid up to #4 and Eastern Washington came in at #5 following their big win over Big Sky rival UC Davis.
The other teams moving up were headlined by South Dakota who moved up 6 spots to #12 following their miraculous last second victory over in-state rival SDSU. Mercer moved up 4 spots into a tie at #20 after a big win over Chattanooga. Stephen F Austin made their first appearance in the AGS Top 25 this season coming in at #22 following their 4th straight win. Monmouth got back into the top 25 at #22 after stringing together their own 4 game win streak. Holy Cross also got back into the top 25 coming in at #25 after punching their ticket to the playoffs claiming the Patriot League autobid.
Teams going in the opposite direction started with UC Davis who dropped 4 spots to #10 following their aforementioned loss to EWU. That stinging last second defeat to USD dropped South Dakota State 7 spots down to #11. Chattanooga, Northern Iowa, and VMI all dropped out of the top 25 after taking losses in week 11.
In terms of conference representation the Big Sky and the MVFC led the way each placing 5 teams into the top 25. They were followed by the AQ7, Big South, CAA, Ivy League, SOCON, and Southland who each put 2 teams into the top 25. 11 conferences were represented in this week’s top 25.
